Why this site exists

Concierge medicine and direct primary care are growing, and most of what is written about them comes from practices and companies that sell memberships. That information can be useful, but it is written to persuade.

We set out to write the page we would want to read before signing a membership agreement: what the terms mean, what a fee usually does and does not include, how insurance and Medicare fit in, where the evidence is thin, and what to ask.

How we work

We rely on primary and authoritative sources such as Medicare.gov, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Internal Revenue Service, and professional organizations, and we link to them so you can check our work. Where good evidence does not exist, we say so instead of filling the gap. Our editorial standards describe this in detail.

We do not publish an article as “medically reviewed” unless a qualified reviewer has actually reviewed it, and we will name that reviewer when it happens.

How this site may be funded

At launch, the site carries no advertising and has no paid relationships with medical practices. In the future we may add advertising or a clearly labeled directory of practices. If we do, paid placements will be disclosed and will not determine what our articles say.
